Police: Robber Demanded Cash That Was Later Found In Taxi

SAN DIEGO — A taxi driver was pistol-whipped in the forehead during a robbery attempt in San Diego’s Grantville neighborhood early Friday, police said.

The incident in the parking lot outside McGregor’s Grill and Ale House at 10475 San Diego Mission Road was reported at 1:46 a.m., San Diego police Officer David Stafford said

A man got into the back seat of the cab and pointed a handgun at the driver, then demanded cash, he said in a statement. The driver complied, but the man nonetheless struck the driver on his forehead with the weapon before fleeing on foot, he said.

The cash was later found in the back seat of the cab, Stafford said. The cabbie was taken to a hospital for treatment of a laceration.
